Swimming

we had our 4wdriving yesterday. went out to bethells lake out on the sand dunes. got to try out our sun shelter we go tfrom the C/Card hotpoints. Ethan had a little naked paddle in the creek and got sand evry where then we had BBQ and prizegiving at club member house and John took Ethan for swim in the pool. Wasnt sure how he would like the cold water but didnt bother him, he had a ball. Grandad babysat saturday night as we had work do. He had a haircut and beard trim (only does it about once or twice a year) Was so funny as Ethan was bit unsure who he was, and every body today didnt reconised him either
while at the dunes we slid down them on bits of cardboard, havent done that for years. came very close to face planting in the sand but the climb back up the dune was the real killer... New years resolution... must get fit

Aarrhhh, its nearly Christmas....

Somebody stop the clock, this year has gone way too fast. I cant believe its december already.
And along with it all the guff that follows. Im talking trees and shopping and visiting and parties and well the list goes on. Last Saturday we put the tree up. A real one, yay, it smells so good. I made Ethan a christmas stocking out of some red velvet I had with white trim around the top.
I also made some decorations for the tree using red baubells and gold glitter pen. I put a name on each one, Ethan, Mummy, Daddy, Grandma, Nana, Grandad. so that we will eventually have one each for everyone in the family how ever they took such along time to dry that i will do the rest after chrismas. as could only write on one side at a time so will need longer to do auntys gt grandparents etc. Ive also got his presents wrapped and hidden away.
Sunday we spent 4wdriving at Waiuku forest which was a really nice day. Tuesday Ethan and I headed off to Tauranga taking his Gt Grandma Harvey down to visit her brother. We also had lunch at Gt Grandparents (Eades) whee Ethan decided he wanted to try my ham cheeze and pickle sandwhich. I didnt think he would like it but I was wrong.
That evening us 2 popped up to Tauranga hospital to visit my cousin who had a little girl (Kyra) earlier in the day. what a little sweetie. We then spent the night at Grandma Harveys brothers and Jude said Ethan was the most well behaved baby to ever stay in their house.
Wednesday we went to Lapsit at the libary where the had morning tea and Ethan had his first animal bicky. Then out to coffe with a friend. and lunch at another friends before heading back to Auckland. Thursady had us up at the mall for me to try on a dress as Im going to be a bridesmaid at a friends wedding in Feb.
Friday morning we had the coffee groups break up morning tea, with prezzies for all the kids. They got a soft ball each that jingles. (Spent Thurday afternoon wrapping them)
Here I am on Saturday back at work (no rest for the wicked aye?) with the staff christmas do tonight in town (Grandads babysitting) then 4wdriving again on sunday for the landrover club chrismas run.
What a weeks its been... luckily only have couple of things to do next week. mostly getting ready for christmas and packing for camping over new years.

Time for a change

So you may of noticed some changes to the blog... im just playing around. what do you think?
Been a fairly busy weekend. Saturday I was working again so Ethan was with his Daddy playing cars and doing boy stuff for the day. Then saturday night we were baby sitting a friends 4 year old daughter. We Took the kids out to "A Christmas Wonderland" an indoor christmas tree trail.
It ws so amazing, so many trees all decorated differently, Both Ethan and Friends daughters eyes were shining, and Ethan squealed with delight when we saw a statue of santa. (no fear of him being afraid of him) Would of loved to show you all pictures but there was no cameras allowed in there which was a shame. However we will be going to see Santa when he arives at the mall so will put those up for you to see when i can.
Ethan has also learnt this week to sit on his own without support but you have to stay near cos every now and then he forgets and flops over and just yesterday he has started to commando crawl and man he is fast when he wants something... look out dog!!!!

Tonsilitis and Colds....

Ethan has had a cold for past few days, but on Sunday his temp started getting a bit high so of we went to the doctors who told us he has tonsititis on top of the cold. (no wonder hes been a grumpy boy) So now he has antibiotics and anti-imflammatries. Then yesterday John went to doctors and hes now also on antibiotics too for his throat. And guess what... who has a sore throat now.... Me. The joys of kids, aye?

wrapped or unwrapped... mind of his own

Well it seems our little boy is staring to get a real personality and knows what he wants (although sometimes we get it wrong. Take for instance Saturday Night, we decided to see how he would sleep if we didnt swaddle him (usually wrapped at night but sleeps fine during day without) weeeellll... that did not go down well with him.
He screamed blue murder from the moment I placed him down (usually pop him down and walk out and he goes to sleep within 5 mins) He was not happy, we tried just resettling him but he was not having a bar of it and just got himself so wound up that in the end we got him up, calmed him down, then wrapped him and he finally settled.
So come Sunday night and we decided we would just keep wrapping him as thats what worked (and since he was sleeping through did it really matter) so anyway put him into bed wrapped.
Well knock me down with a feather (haha, ive always wanted to say that) hes goes and decided he does NOT want to be wrapped. Again screamed the house down, and got himself so worked up and hot that i unwrapped him to cool him off and he rolled over onto his side and went to sleep. So all this week he has been side-sleeping unwrapped. My baby is making decisions for him self

Sorry its been so long...

Ok, I know ive been slack about posting. its been real flatout lately and ive got out of the habit. But no excuses, back into it now.
First of all I had better bring everybody up to date (for those of you who know what been going on, please bear with me)
Weelllll.... to start with back in september, we went down to gisbourne to stay with Nana (Lorraine) and Grandad (Trevor). On the way down we spent a night in Tauranga. then met a lady and her girl in the morning that we had been chatting too on the internet from when we were due at the same time. was good to finally put faces to names.
Down at gisbourne, John was roped into helping to build the deck with all the boys (ness , nigel, emily and scott were all also staying)
Was really good having the cousins together (Emily and Ethan) although Emily did start to get a little put out when Ethan was getting cuddles from Nana.
Ok, enough of that trip... got lots to get through,
Next trip was Mum and I (and Ethan) down to Paeroa, Tauranga, Katikati, and Hamilton.
bit of a tikitour midweek around visiting friends and family. We took Ethan down to meet his Great Grandparents who thought he was wonderful, and Grandma Eades loved having cuddles.
The weekend after that trip was 4wdriving at Poutu (near dargaville) with the landrover club.
This was Ethan 2nd time 4wdriving and he seemed to enjoy it. We shared a cabin with Grandad (brian) and a friend Andrew,
The latest Trip was just this last weekend down to Napier for a friends wedding. We stayed hwith a friend whos little boy is 11 days younger than Ethan. Was really neat having the 2 boys together as they are just getting to the age where they are really starting to notice each other.
The wedding was really lovely and some mutual friends (Tori, this is you guys) were also up for it, so the night befor the wedding we went and caught up with them and stuffed ourselves silly on chinese food at their motel...
On the way home on the sunday we stopped at Taupo and Nana and Grandad were up form the weekend so had lunch with them, then onto huntly where we visited a frind with a week old baby girl. It really made it obvious how much my little baby boy had grown... hes not a little baby anymore hes a little boy.
Sorry theres no photos at the momoent as im at work (yes, work.... im back at roverland just once a month doing saturday recption, today being the first) so i will post some photos when i get home so do keep and eye out.
Oh and other things you would like to know about... Ethan is now rolling all over the place, not quite crawling but definatly trying, hes is also on solids and loves his banana. Can drink out of a sipper cup by himself. And not far off teeth coming through if the dribbling/rosy cheeks are anything too go by.
Hes got a really lovely giggle and still just the happiest wee boy though.
Ive also joined the plunket commitee as well as running the local plunket coffee group. and as its been their annual appeal week, ive been pretty busy with the door to door collections etc as ive been dropping stuff off to collectors, counting etc as well as doing my collection runs too.
And I now also babysit a friends 4 years old daughter every friday. So as i say pretty hectic round here, but Im loving being a mum...

Baby Massage

We had a baby massage course this morning down at the Plunket parent centre. was really cool. there were 5 babies (4 boys + 1 girl) and they seems to really enjoy it. Was all about the different strokes etc to use for relaxing and to help with things like constipation and colic etc.
After the massages us mums got to chatting and they are going to come along to the Glenfield Plunket cofee group which I have just taken over running.

Were Going to the ZOO...zoo zoo

You can come too ...too too.
Haha maybe that should say we went to the zoo zoo zoo..... because we did on Saturday for Katelyns 2nd Birthday.
It was so much fun and has changed so much since the last time I was there. Everybody walked too slow for John so he kept dissapearing with Ethan all the time while the rest of us plodded along looking at animals, taking photos etc. It rained a little when we first got there so we took shelter in the lion viewing area, but once that passed it was mostly fine for the rest of the day. We all had lunch together at the band rotunda then it was off for some more exploring. they have an Australian Walkabout where the kangaroos etc are roaming around where you walk through (although they were all sleeping under the trees as we went through) and in one part they give you a little container of milk to feed the birds (that was pretty cool, at one point had 4 birds on my arms fighting over who got the milk)
Ethan again was so good all day even though he was really tired by the end of the day, Grandad (Brian) came with us and i think he loved spending the day with his grandson.

1st Night Out

Saturday night was the first time John and I have gone out for the night since Ethan was born. We had a friends 60th to go to and as he is a musician and the party was going to be at a bar we figured Ethan was going to have to stay home.
It was also to be my friend Jessicas first night out also since her little boy was born.
Grandad (Brian) came over to babysit for the night, so after dinner and putting Ethan down for the night we were off to Jesses to "Glam Up" then off into town. We had an excelent night with lots of dancing etc, and it was wonderful to hang up the "Mummy Mask" and just let hair down. (hehe, although we did have a photo of our darling boy to show of to everyone) We got home at about 2.30am. so after Ethans 6am feed he was passed to grandad for mum and dad to head back to bed for a much needed sleep in (gosh we must be getting old, cant handle the late nights anymore)
Our other big news for the night is that on Saturday (Day) while some friends were over, Ethan did his first rollover. While having some tummytime he managed to roll onto his back. He also did it later that night in time for john to see, however has not done it since.
Ethan also had his 12 weeks immunisations today, so has not been a happy chappy this afternoon.

We got a new pppy on the weekend, her name is Jazz, shes a sharpei x

Jazz is one day older than Ethan so they will be growing up together, she is such a little sweetheart, but its pretty full on round here at the moment between the two of them they are keeping me on my toes.

We also moved Ethan into his cot in his room, He has done so well, He goes down to bed about 7.30pm and usually sleeps through to 6am.

Must dash as we are out to dinner tonight...

The Story of the Rose

When I was little I was given a imitation Yellow rose (which I still have), this became my special flower
so now whenever I get sick or need cheering up Mum (and now John) gets me a yellow rose,
Paul (my brother) gets a pink rose as when he was little and sick Mum gave him a pink one.
So of course when Ethan had his surgery I rang Mm and said we have to choose a colour for him.
She bought in a couple of different colours in (and a new yellow one for me) and we chose White roses to be his special flower. So he has the one to keep forever and will get a fresh one whenever he needs it.

Its Been a quiet week this week, have spent it at home just relaxing for the most of it. We did go to the doctors to have his dressings removed. He now has 2 tiny little scars. As we were home i decided that it was time to go through his clothes and get them sorted. So now things that are too big yet have been put away till hes bit bigger, and all the stuff that fits now (or soon) is in his drawers. At the moment he is sleeping in our room still in the bassinet, but he is starting to get a bit long so will be moving into his cot very shortly.

hospitals and Hernias...

On Friday, our sweet little boy developed a hernia in his groin, came up really quickly and he was in alot of pain, so we got ourselves down to A & E pretty quick smart where john met us, they poked and prodded and decided he was to be transfered to Starship childrens hospital. By the time the ambulance came to take us over the heria had gone back in and he was ok however as they were possibly ging to have to operate he was to be kept nil by mouth untill he got there and they decide what was happening. so as we arrived he let the whole place know that he was starving and not happy bout it, they gave us the go ahead to give him a drink as because the hernia went back in they would oprate the next day instead, so it was up to the ward for the night, he was having a good time laughing at the nurses everytime they tried to put the monitor on him. Ethan slept wonderfully but im sure i spent most of night awake and not only because we were sharing a room with another baby who had just had the operation and his mum but they were up and down all night. was nil by mouth from 3am as op was booked for 9am, so with alot of distraction we managed to keep him fairly calm untill 10am when he went in (they were quite busy so was a little later than planned. Op went great they check the otherside and found another hernia so fixed that while they were there. He was a little upset when he woke but after he calmed down enough to take a feed he gave me a big smile that just melted my heart. Had to stay another night just to monitor him after having anestitic, during which time we had a new roommate, Anna age 11 and her mum, Anna was getting her apendix out and was a little scared but after seeing how happy Ethan was felt a little better. we also gave her a imitation yellow rose to keep to cheer her up and remember us by.

We've been busy

Wow... lifes pretty full on round here, Ethan seems to have a very busy social calender.
Friday 23rd we went to the musuem with walking group, I cant wait till he is bit older as the childrens section is just amazing these days.
Saturday afternoon was spent at buterfly creek for my birthday, late lunch with friends and wander through the butterfly house.
Sunday was Ethans first landrover club run, we spent day at Bethells sanddunes, he's a natural loved going over the bumps, and had good time sitting in pushchair watching the fun relays.

Monday is our stay at home day so we turned down invite over to see friends,
And Tuesday was a walk round Western Springswith Jessica and Dominic, where the two boys were popular with the asian tourists.

A Mothers Prayer

Now i lay me down to sleep, I pray my sanity to keep, For if some peace i do not find, I'm pretty sure i'll lose my mind. I pray i find a little quite, far from the daily family riot. May i lay back and not have to think, of what they're stuffing down the sink, or who they're with, or where they're at, or what they're doing to the cat! I pray for time all to myself, (did something just fall off a shelf?) to cuddle in my nice soft bed, (on no! another goldfish dead!) some silence please, for godness sake, (did i just hear a window break?) and that i need not cook or clean, (well heck, i've got the right to dream) yes now i lay me down to sleep, i pray my wits about me keep, But as i look around me know, I must have lost them long ago!
